Tawna + Rusty: Destination Cancún

A few years back I was asked to shoot Dave + Tashia’s wedding in Dominican Republican and was lucky enough to be asked to return by the Tucker family and photograph Tawna + Rusty’s wedding in Mexico. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to spend more time with them again, considering they feel like second family now after spending so much time together in tropical paradises :) Not much else to say here, except that the photos should tell the story well enough to see how happy this family is for their daughters. The whole family has always been so inviting and overly thankful for my services and its been a pleasure to help them preserve their memories from these fun trips.

It wasn’t just all work for me either – I took a full day to travel to Cozumel by myself to scooter around the island and drop in at local snorkeling spots. If you’re looking for a great spot for food, cervezas, beach hammocks, and snorkeling, try out Money Bar. Very good off shore snorkeling and just about as relaxing as you can get.

TIP FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS: Most destination resorts include a photographer in their package to wedding guests and/or honeymooners. In this particular case, the package was for one hour of coverage, which I negotiated with the resort photographer so that he could be a second shooter for me during the ceremony and help out with group portraits. While this seemed ideal at the time, it became a hassle afterwards due to the quality of photography, long duration of group portraits (really, you don’t need 15 different setups of group portraits in the hot Mexican sun), and most importantly, the company wouldn’t release the RAW images to me so that I could edit and apply my own color treatments to for a consisent delivery of images to client. Live & Learn. My advice, don’t use resort photographers at all, its not worth the hassle and the inconsistencies. And this is also why many couples elect to bring their own photographers to destination weddings with them – resort photographers, while technically competent with a camera, may lack the creativity and imagination both in production skills and post color treatments to really make an image compelling and fun.
